|
Contact www.nixle.com to learn all about this free service that provides several levels of notifications to you. Alerts is the first and most important and would come through your cell phone. Less important notifications such as any crimes in your specific area, community events, etc., would come over your email.
That's it in a nutshell. Go on the www.nixle.com site, they have a video that explains the system to you. Over 3600 Law Enforcement agencies in the Nation subscribe to this service and it is receiving high marks.
Once you register as a user you can even list the location of your distant parents or children away to college and receive emergency and non-emergency notifcations concerning events going on in their area.
We are still in the development stage and are testing it. The City of Plainwell Police are on it and keep their citizens aware of crime and traffic problems. |

Frauds and Scams
|
|
Please review the previous articles on Identity Theft, etc., on the Police Portion of this website, Page 3. Closely check your bank statements each month. Do your credit checks each year as permitted, with the Major Credit Bureaus listed.
Do not give out personal information to someone you do not know. Ask for a business card, or other info about the business. And, then check with the Grand Rapids based Better Business Bureau to see if they have any complaints listed against the Company. You may also check appropriate Michigan Government Sites to see if the business is appropriately licensed. The County Clerk may also be able to tell you if the business is licensed. DO NOT give your hard earned money up front, before the service is provided. Most reputable businesses will encourage you to check them out and feel comfortable before money exchanges hands.

Credit Card Used Overseas 10/27/2006
|
We received a call today from a resident reporting their Capital One Credit Card had been used in a Foreign Country. We took all the information available and made a local Police Report, resident was given a local Complaint Number.
PLEASE DON'T FALL FOR THESE MAIL, INTERNET AND TELEPHONE SCAMS!
I HATE CLICHES, BUT IF IT SOUNDS TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE, IT IS (not it probably is).
Talk to a Trust Friend or Relative, show them what you have been offered. Get their advice, call the Better Business Bureau, call us. DON'T GIVE OUT YOUR SOCIAL SECURITY, BANK ACOUNT, DRIVERS LICENSE, AND OTHER NUMBERS TO ANYONE WITHOUT ABSOLUTE AUTHENTICATION. |
