In 1996, Arlington, TX, 9 year old Amber Hagerman was kidnapped off her bicycle and later found murdered. The Amber Alert Program evolved from this tragic event. By 2001, only four (4) States were participating. In 2006, all fifty (50) States are now particpating.
The Amber Alerts are activated by contacting your local Police via 911. Certain criteria have to quickly be met; i.e. Stranger kidnapping, endangered missing, etc. |
